Jolente De Maeyer
Jolente De Maeyer studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music in London, the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo. She has been widely acclaimed as one of Belgium’s leading violinists for her virtuosity and impassioned interpretations. A highly versatile artist, she has been awarded several prizes and received outstanding reviews for her performances and recordings. A prizewinner at competitions in, among others, Portugal (Julio Cardona), Russia (Liana Isakadze) and the UK (Benjamin Britten), she has performed as a soloist with the major Belgian orchestras. Highlights include a tour with Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, and concerts in major venues and festivals across Europe, the US and China. Jolente De Maeyer is a much sought-after concertmaster, and since 2018 she has been the artistic director of her own string orchestra, BRYGGEN – Bruges Strings. Jolente is also active as a violin professor since 2018 at the Conservatoire of Tilburg and, since 2021, also at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. She regularly gives masterclasses in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal and the US.
Jolente De Maeyer’s recordings include concertos by Saint-Saëns and Vieuxtemps with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège and Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata with her duo partner Nikolaas Kende.
